"You are someone else to someone else." This is a Timism. This is something that I tell my students all the time because they ALWAYS think that some bad or a negative consequence happens to someone else. When I tell that they ARE someone else to someone else they have to at least stop and think for a minute. Which that is what we want them to do as a teacher, right? After dealing with at-risk kids for 9 years, I found that most of them thought that they could do any thing and nothing would happen to them. I even had one kid that got drunk, jumped on a car hood, his friend started driving backwards, he was thrown off, and his leg got ran over. It broke his leg so bad that he had to have rods and pins placed in it. He blew it off as, no joke, "bad luck". He was having an unlucky day. Really bad things like addiction or death happens to "someone else".
Are there any other teachers out there that would like to scream when a kid thinks they can do any thing and nothing can or will happen to they?
Oh yeah, this is my very first blog so I need some feed back on how to do this blogging thing.
